Who we are

The O’Brien Notre Dame International Security Center was established in 2008 to provide a forum where leading scholars in national security studies from Notre Dame and elsewhere could come together to explore some of the most pressing issues in national security policy.

South Korea wins hearts and minds with KPop Demon Hunters

Britain’s Royal Air Force band performed [KPop Demon Hunters'] feature song for the changing of the guard earlier this month at Buckingham Palace and tennis star Novak Djokovic re-enacted one of the dances from the movie after he won his quarter final match at the US Open in August.

“It’s an interesting combination of things that struck gold in this crazy way and really resonates with different audiences perfectly,” said Jenna Gibson, a senior research associate at the Notre Dame International Security Center in the US.

The Wire China - China’s Rare Earths Riposte

Others say the U.S. is unlikely to face major shortages of the rare earths in question. Eugene Gholz, a professor at the  University of Notre Dame who previously advised the Pentagon on manufacturing policy, says there should be ample supply of the seven minerals on global markets because significant trade in rare earths happens outside Chinese government control. “Much of it is illicit and smuggled,” he says.
