Chaplain (LTC) Peter T. Hofman

Chaplain Peter T. Hofman was born in Waupun, WI, on 14 April 1976. He graduated
from Central Wisconsin Christian High School in 1994.
Chaplain Hofman enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserves in 2000. In college at the time,
Chaplain Hofman took advantage of the Split Training Option. In May of 2000, he was
sent to Fort Leonard Wood, MO, for Basic Training. Over the next year, he continued
his college education and drilled at the 180th Transportation Company in Muskegon, MI.
In the summer of 2001, he went back to Fort Leonard Wood to complete 88M (truck driver) Advanced Individual Training.
In 2003, he was direct commissioned from SGT to 2LT as a Chaplain Candidate. He completed his undergraduate degree at Kuyper College in Grand Rapids, MI, and earned his Master of Divinity from Calvin Theological Seminary in Grand Rapids, MI. He is ordained and endorsed by the Christian Reformed Church of North America.
In 2006, Chaplain Hofman became an Active-Duty Army Chaplain at Fort Drum, NY, where he served and deployed to Iraq as part of the “Surge” with the 3-6 Field Artillery Battalion, 10th Mountain Division. His second assignment was with 4th Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne) at Fort Bragg, NC, where he served as the Battalion Chaplain. In August of 2010 he deployed to Afghanistan as the Special Operations Task Force – Southeast Chaplain, and in January of 2012, he deployed again to Afghanistan as the Special Operations Task Force – East Chaplain. Following his graduation from the Special Forces Qualification Course, he was assigned as the Plans and Operations Chaplain, United States Special Operations Command (Airborne), Ft. Bragg, NC. His next assignment was to the United States Army Chaplain Center and School, Ft. Jackson, SC, as the Initial Military Training Executive Officer and as a Chaplain Basic Officer Leader Course Small Group Leader. From there, he was assigned to 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne), Eglin Air Force Base, FL, as the Group Chaplain. His next assignment was as the Multinational Force and Observers Chaplain, Sinai, Egypt. His most recent assignment was as the Garrison Chaplain at Fort Rucker, AL. Currently, he is serving as the First Army Division East Chaplain. His next assignment will be to the University of Notre Dame as a War College Fellow.
His military education includes the Command and General Staff College, Military History Instructor Course, Cadre Training Course, Foundation Instructor Facilitator Course, Operational Religious Support Leadership Course, Chaplain Captain Career Course, Special Forces Qualification Course, Detachment Leaders Course, Survival Escape Resistance and Evasion School, Special Forces Assessment and Selection, Ranger School, Pre-Ranger Course, Air Assault School, Airborne School, Chaplain Officer Basic Course, and the Motor Transport Operator Course.
Chaplain Hofman’s awards and decorations reflect his service during Operations IRAQI FREEDOM and ENDURING FREEDOM and include the Bronze Star Medal (1 OLC), Meritorious Service Medal (3 OLC), Army Commendation Medal (1 OLC), Army Achievement Medal (3 OLC), Valorous Unit Award (1 OLC), Meritorious Unit Commendation, Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Armed Forces Service Medal, Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with “M” device, NATO Medal, Multinational Force and Observers Medal with Force Commander’s Commendation Pin, Holland 4 days Cross Marches Nijmegen Medal, Special Forces Tab, Ranger Tab, Combat Action Badge, Parachutist’s Badge, and the Air Assault Badge.
Chaplain Hofman is the father of eight children: Mark, age 24; Petra, age 20; Andrew, age 19; Isaac, age 15; Keira, age 13; Alexa, age 12, and twin boys, Elijah and Gabriel, age 10.
