Luke Joseph Schumacher

Luke Schumacher is a Ph.D. student in the Department of Politics at the University of Virginia and an American in the World Consortium (AWC) predoctoral fellow at Columbia Law School’s National Security Law Program.

His research explores grand strategy and constitutional law, with an emphasis on U.S. foreign policy. His academic work has appeared in edited volumes and in the Texas National Security Review. His commentary may be found at War on the Rocks, Lawfare, The National Interest, and elsewhere.

Before graduate school, Luke served as a U.S. Army intelligence officer in Afghanistan, South Korea, and elsewhere in the Indo-Pacific. He holds a B.S. in American politics from West Point, an M.Phil. in intellectual history from the University of Cambridge, where he was a Rotary Scholar, and a J.D. from Stanford Law School, where he was a Jacobson Scholar and Rumsfeld Foundation Graduate Fellow.
